Forgetting Sarah Marshall (2008)

Film: Forgetting Sarah Marshall
Drink: Pina Colada
Overall 6 out of 6 drinks.
Drinking game:
  • Drink every time anyone cries.
  • Drink anytime Kunu gives advice.
  • Drink every time Aldous says something stupid.
  • Someone complains about a shirt.
  • Drink anytime someone brings up the term 'Rock Opera'.
  • Drink anytime anyone has sex.
"How you served five years under her, I don't know. You deserve a medal, or a holiday or at least a cuddle from somebody."

It's friday and I you know that means I'll be doing another comedy review! This time it's actually one of my all time favorite movies Forgetting Sarah Marshall directed by the fantastic Nicholas Stroller who recently wrote the new Muppets movie. This is certainly a comedy/romance although I'm not sure it would be an appropriate date movie unless your date has an incredible sense of humor and no baggage about there ex. It's almost a movie I could see watching with a close dude friend. Does that sound gay? Yeah maybe a little, but I still mean it.

We're not going too crazy this one today, it'll just be a simple Pina Colada. If you've never had one of these before get ready because their delicious. And if you have, well then I'm sure you're ready for another round. It's a very tangy and coconutty taste that's light on the tongue and fruity but still packs a rum-filled punch! Also it's cold season and I've always heard that the old Russian home remedy for it was some rum before bed so I guess I've got you covered there.

It isn't too tricky to make, comparatively speaking, here's what you'll need:
  • A blender.
  • 3 oz. light Rum
  • 2 oz. coconut cream
  • 2 cups crushed or grounded ice.
Basically you're just gonna throw all that shit in the blender and then press the high speed button until it resembles a liquid form and then pour it into a nice glass or two. If you're feeling especially fancy (and you should be, it's friday!) then you can garnish with your personal favorite piece of fruit. The traditional choice is usually pineapple but I really enjoy it with an orange.

It should look like this minus the food and the sunny beach.
After you've watched a couple clips from this film it should become apparent why this drink is chosen. After all it takes place on a Hawaiian resort and what drink is more Hawaiian than a Pina Colada? Well probably a lot of things, like any type of straight rum. But still it isn't a bad choice. The light but powerful flavoring goes well with the comedy and should have you really rooting for Peter between laughing hysterically. Plus honestly after a break-up with a total bitch who couldn't go for a Pina Colada? I know I've beent here and you probably have too, so let's drink and watch.

Things to toast to:
  • Fantastic cast, always gotta love Kristen Bell and the minor characters are great
  • Making fun of how cheesy CSI is.
  • The fantastic Vampire rock-opera
  • The fact anyone can relate to Peter, even if just a little bit.
  • Mila Kunis in a swimsuit
  • Wonderful writing, some of Russel Brand's lines are totally random.
  • The high surf instructor is amazing
  • Fantastic and unexpected ending.
Things to look away and drink to:
  • I don't really like Russell Brand that much
  • I'll believe that Dinosaurs were brought back in Jurassic Park but I can't believe Peter would get with Sarah Marshall ever, even if she cheated on him.
  • It's a pretty long movie.
  • Ex significant others are a bad topic for a first date type movie.

I almost feel bad, like I can't give a solid review for this film because I literally love it so much. That being said I'll admit there are a few downfalls but for a comedy movie to approach such a sensitive and harsh subject in such a great way I can't help but put this down on a list of movies I'd recommend everyone seeing. Especially if you've just recently ended a relationship.
